Physical Education Curriculum

Physical Education Intent

At Cedars Primary School we want our pupils’ experience of PE to be positive and motivating. Our broad and balanced PE curriculum strives to engage and inspire pupils to develop their confidence, knowledge, skills and understanding. It is inclusive and helps pupils to build their confidence and competence in a range of activities.

As a school we use the Primary PE Planning scheme which has a progressive learning journey from Early Years through to KS2, ensuring mastery of key skills. Our PE curriculum aims to:

  • Equip every child with the key physical and social skills that can be facilitated through to PE and sport
  • Enable every child to progress with confidence and competence in PE and sport -throughout their school journey and beyond
  • Embed key sporting values that can be applied positively in everyday life
  • Inspire children to live a healthy and active lifestyle into adulthood, using PE and sports to facilitate this
  • Develop the physical and mental wellbeing of every child and ensure it is central to their physical education journey

We hold an annual ‘Sports Day’ where our pupils can showcase their sporting abilities to parents/carers. This experience teaches our pupils about competition, build up their resilience and encourage them to be aspirational. We also participate in sporting tournaments and have internal school competitions.

As a school, we offer a variety of extra-curricular sporting activities which provide pupils with opportunities to stay active, develop skills, and enjoy team spirit.
