Happy New Year and a warm welcome back to school!
In Maths our learning will be to continue to develop our grasp of addition and subtraction, recognise and describe 2D and 3D shapes and work with number to 50 in Year 1 and 100 in Year 2. We will also continue to work on our skip-counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to build our confidence and fluency.
In our English lessons we will be looking at stories from other cultures and poetry through a lovely poem called the ‘Magic Box’. What would you put in your box? We will build on the skills we have learned in the Autumn term, continuing to apply our grammar and spelling rules, and looking at nouns and adjectives. We will have spellings each week which will be sent home along with continuing our daily phonics lessons to support reading and writing. Our first text is always a pleasure to read!
In Geography we will be considering the weather in the UK and comparing it to Bangladesh. We will be looking at and making our own weather forecasts so let’s hope for something other than rain for the next few weeks!
In Art, we will be drawing portraits and practicing how to get the proportions of the face right. We will also be identifying and working with hot and cold colours.
In Science Year 1 we will be looking at different animals and their diets as well as investigating the properties of materials. Year 2 will be focusing on the importance of exercise and diet to maintain a healthy body and investigating hygiene by testing how best to clean our hands.
Our RE topic is all about friendship. We will be thinking about what makes a good friend, what friendship means and asking whether it was always easy for Jesus to show friendship.
We will also be doing PE, PSHE, Computing and Music!
Here are some things you might want to do at home:
We always enjoy seeing and hearing what you have been up to outside of school!
We will be continuing to set homework. The expectations are:
Your child will change their phonics book on a Monday ONLY at the start of the day. They will not need to change them at any other time.
Don’t forget, that every day the children need: – a re-fillable water bottle, book bag to hold their reading record, spelling book and reading book and their lunch box (if they are not school dinners).
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit on these days – they do not need their school uniform to change back into.
As the weather gets colder, we will still be outside for some PE lessons. Please make sure your child has suitable trainers (not plimsols) and a jumper.
