Years 1 and 2 Curriculum Overview
Muck, Mess and Mixture
Welcome back to school for the second half of the Autumn Term and the lead up to Christmas!
In Maths our learning will be to develop our grasp of addition and subtraction, using a variety of models and images. We will continue to work on our skip-counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to build our confidence and fluency.
Our English lessons will cover traditional tales, letter writing and instructions. We will be building on the skills we have learned in Autumn 1, continuing to apply our grammar and spelling rules and learning about different text types. We will have spellings each week which will be sent home along with continuing our daily phonics lessons to support reading and writing. Your child will change their phonics book on a Monday and Thursday during their phonics lesson – they will not need to change them at any other time.
In Geography we will be learning about our local area. We will be carrying out fieldwork, looking at maps and even making our own maps of a high street.
In Art we are going to work on colour mixing and using different lines in sketching. We will have the opportunity to experiment with these skills in lots of ways!
In Science we will be covering the properties of materials, manipulating materials, the seasons, weather and deciding if things are living, dead or were never alive.
We will also be doing RE, PE, PSHE, Computing and Music!
We are also very excited to be starting rehearsals for our Christmas performance! We have lots of songs to learn and some lines too.
Here are some things you might want to do at home:
