Years 1 and 2 Curriculum Overview
Welcome back to school for another year of exciting learning and having fun!
In Maths, our learning will focus on place value and number initially. This will help us to secure our understanding of number value and number bonds to help become more fluent before looking at other mathematical processes.
Our English lessons will cover narrative, information texts and poetry. We will be focusing on securing the basics of writing and understanding the different text types we are covering as well as building on previous learning of punctuation and grammar. We will have spellings each week which will be sent home along with continuing our daily phonics lessons to support reading and writing. Your child will change their phonics book on a Monday and Thursday during their phonics lesson – they will not need to change them at any other time.
In History, we will be learning about how historians find out about the past and Remembrance Day.
In DT, we will be looking at wheels and axles in more detail – seeing if we can make a simple vehicle to carry a small object.
In Science, we will be covering animals and offspring, parts of plants and what they need to grow.
We will also be doing RE, PE, PSHE, Computing and Music!
Here are some things you might want to do at home:
We look forward to seeing some of the things you have been learning about at home!
