Years 1 and 2 Curriculum Overview
Welcome back to school for the Summer Term-hasn’t the year flown by!
In Maths Miss Pollendine and Mrs Spring’s groups will be continuing to learn about shapes as well as moving on to reading an analogue clock to tell the time to the hour and half past. In Miss Forrest and Mrs Lockley’s groups we will be learning how to recognise and count in fractions of different amounts and shapes.
Our English lessons will cover recount writing and action-adventure fiction writing- working on using verbs, adverbs and adjectives to add detail and drama to a story. We will continue to work on spelling rules and taught grammar and punctuation. We love sharing our writing in Key Stage 1 and hope to read some of our work out loud this half term to other children in the school!
In History we will be learning about the British Monarchy- specifically Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. The children will be looking at a variety of sources and learning about changes over time including why monarchs change and what happens when there is a new one.
In DT we are going to work on attachment techniques to create our very own turrets! We will be revising the various techniques we learn in KS1 and using these to design and make a turret of our choice.
In Year 2 Science we will be covering what humans and animals need to survive and completing an investigation based on everyday materials. In Year 1 Science we will be learning about animal classification and properties of materials.
We will also be doing RE, PE, PSHE, Computing and Music!
